About me
I have an MA degree in pedagogy/behavioral science with a specialization in migration, a long-standing background in civil society organizations as expert in the migration field and as leader and manager in various fields of work. I have further training in management development, presentation techniques and rhetoric and have lectured and conducted trainings in many contexts.
Within my professional engagements, I have contributed to articles in migration literature and have led projects on publications and reports on conditions and rights for refugees, particularly regarding family reunification, women and children.
I have deepened my interest in writing through courses at folk high schools and published the book ”Augusta, Axel och jag” which is based on letters from my grandfather’s sister, who emigrated to North America, to her brother on the farm back home in Southern Gästrikland in Sweden. I was myself born and raised on the same farm and have lived in Stockholm for many years.
The book, which blends facts and fiction, has received an honorable mention from Sweden’s Local History Association in connection with the award for the annual Local History Book 2022. ”A fine and personally written family chronicle about the author’s grandfather Axel and grandfather’s sister Augusta.” I am available for lectures in writing courses and presenting the book in libraries and in other contexts.
About the book
On 16 November 1928, Augusta from the village Österfärnebo in Sweden embarks the M/S Gripsholm to emigrate to North America. She is employed on arrival as a cook by the chewing gum industrialist Mr. William Wrigley Jr. in Chicago, travelling with the family to the magnificent residences around the U.S. During the first years, everything is new and fascinating to Augusta. But soon there will be sorrows and her longing for those left back home grows stronger.
In the book we follow Augusta’s life in North America through her letters to her brother Axel, parallel to the life back home on the farm. Augusta’s introduction to the affluent lifestyle is a strong contrast to the strenuous life on the small farm in the south of the province Gästrikland.
The book takes us through the social development during decades blending facts, interviews and fiction. The book includes photographs and historical documents from the life of Augusta and the writer’s research travels to the U.S., to Chicago, Phoenix, Pasadena and Catalina Island, where Augusta lived with the Wrigley family.
